Fusion Music Festival

The Altamont School will host a free multicultural music event featuring the ragas, rhythm and jazz of three Indian master musicians 5-8 p.m. Oct. 28.
The Fusion Music Festival, organized by Altamont student Arman Sultan and his family, will include free food and the music of Partho Sarothy, Pandit Subhen Chatterjee and Mita Nag.
Partho Sarothy (sarod) has performed worldwide for more than 50 years, sharing the expressive sounds of the sarod, a fretless string instrument central to Hindustani classical music. Based between Kolkata and New Delhi, he is known for creating emotional and spiritual connections through his performances.
Pandit Subhen Chatterjee (tabla) is an internationally acclaimed tabla virtuoso based in Kolkata. Trained in the Lucknow Gharana tradition under maestro Pandit Swapan Chowdhury, he has accompanied some of India’s most celebrated classical musicians, including Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Ustad Rashid Khan, and Pt. Rajan-Sajan Misra. He is also the founder of the fusion band KARMA and the percussion ensemble Friends of Drums.
Mita Nag (Sitar) is one of India’s leading sitar artists and represents a distinguished six-generation musical lineage within the Vishnupur Gharana tradition. The daughter and disciple of sitar maestro Pandit Manilal Nag, she began studying sitar at four-and-a-half years old and has gone on to become one of the most respected performers of her generation.
Indian classical music is renowned for its depth, improvisation, and ability to evoke emotion. Through the intricate interplay of melody and rhythm, these master musicians will offer audiences an immersive cultural experience that transcends language and borders.
We invite you to be part of this special celebration of music, culture and community at The Altamont School! Traditional clothing is welcome!
