Annual Chenoweth Lecture: Erica Hirshler on Sargent and Fashion

Learn more about one of the Museum’s most beloved masterpieces, Lady Helen Vincent, Viscountess d’Abernon, by John Singer Sargent.

The BMA is pleased to welcome Dr. Erica Hirshler, Croll Senior Curator of American Paintings at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, as the speaker of its annual Chenoweth lecture and reception. Hirshler recently curated the blockbuster exhibition Fashioned by Sargent, which featured the BMA’s Lady Helen Vincent, Viscountess d’Abernon

An expert in Sargent, Hirshler has written and lectured widely on American paintings of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, particularly on American Impressionism and the Boston School.

The Chenoweth lectures are endowed by Dr. Arthur I. Chenoweth as a memorial to his brother and parents. The purpose of the lectures is to encourage international understanding through the presentation of a variety of subjects by specialists in their fields.

The reception will start at 5pm and the lecture at 6pm.
