African Heritage Festival

Join us for our annual African Heritage Festival, a free afternoon celebrating the vibrant cultures, traditions, and artistic legacies of Africa through music, art making, community, and performance.
Guests can experience live performances by DRUM the Program in the Museum’s café, African-themed art activities for children and families, face painting with Yogi Dada and Masquerade Face Paint, free tours of the Museum’s African art galleries, and food trucks throughout the day.
In partnership with The Modern Green Book andCity Walk BHM, the festival will also feature a community marketplace on City Walk’s Green space, showcasing local Black-owned businesses and creatives.
Part of our Family Festival series, the African Heritage Festival creates a welcoming, multigenerational experience connecting art, culture, and community.
Schedule of Events
1pm: Crafts, face painting, and food trucks
1:30– 2:15pm: Opening performance by DRUM the Program
2–2:30pm: Guided tour of the African galleries
3–3:45pm: Closing performance by DRUM the Program
3:30–4:00pm: Additional guided tour of the African galleries
