When news broke that Talbots was closing its doors at The Summit in October 2024, an audible gasp could practically be heard around Birmingham. After years as a prominent fixture at the shopping center, the store had a local fanbase, whether it was your mom’s go-to for a polished cardigan or your own favorite spot for workwear essentials.

Now, the store is currently in its soft opening phase at The Summit with a grand opening planned for mid-October 2026, and our wardrobes couldn’t be happier.

Here’s a look at what we know about the store’s return.

Talbots is back at The Summit Birmingham

Talbots’ closure at The Summit left a noticeable hole in the shopping center’s lineup. Now, nearly two years later, the classic women’s clothing brand is back with a refreshed 8,732-square-foot storefront in the plaza corridor between LOFT and Woodhouse Day Spa (near Saks Fifth Avenue).

Cue the retail musical chairs! When Talbots left, Lululemon moved into the space in Summer 2025.

Talbots’ official grand-opening date is still TBD, but the new store will be the only location in the Birmingham area, and one of just six across Alabama.
