Pinson Valley Parkway nightly lane closures through end of 2026: What drivers need to know

Drivers on the north side of town should prepare for possible delays. ALDOT has begun a nightly lane-closure resurfacing project on SR-79/Pinson Valley Parkway between Tarrant and Center Point, expected to last through the end of 2026.

On June 23, the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) announced it was beginning a resurfacing project beginning in Tarrant on State Road (SR)-79/Pinson Valley Parkway.
According to ALDOT, the 2.5-mile job stretches from the Five Mile Creek Bridge in Tarrant, north to Winewood Road near Center Point.
Drivers should expect nightly lane closures Sunday through Thursday from 7PM to 6AM. The project is expected to last until the end of 2026.
If you have driven in the daytime since July 25th, you have likely already experienced ALDOT preparing the road for resurfacing beginning near Chief Billy Hewitt Park.
Since 2025, SR-79 has been getting a makeover.
Below are three initiatives that ALDOT is working on to enhance the roadway:
- Resurface from Alabama Street to Five Mile Creek Bridge in 2025-2026
- Resurface from Five Mile Creek Bridge to Old Bradford Road in late 2026 or early 2027
- Widening from Old Bradford Road north to Dunn Drive
