Hannah Winters is a Birmingham-based artist whose work is for sale in national retailers like Pottery Barn or Anthropologie. Or you might be one of her 70k+ followers who love her style. But have you ever wondered how she finds inspiration for her own Birmingham space?
Her house in Homewood boasts a timeless feel through its furniture, color scheme and art, but there’s something more distinct about it, too: This home is lived in. Children’s artwork frames the fridge, toys have found their way into the kitchen and a booster seat has a permanent spot in one of the dining room chairs.
We sat down with Hannah to talk about what inspires her art and—believe it or not—a hot topic was her dining room chairs, a set from the ever-elegant Ballard Designs that sparked a local partnership.

Hannah Winters finds inspiration across Birmingham

Hannah Winters is a Birmingham-based artist inspired by nature and coastal scenes. You can find trees, rivers, boats or flowers in almost every one of her pieces. But when she’s not creating these relaxing scenes, Hannah is a busy business owner, a mom to three boys and a lover of timeless, beautiful art and design.
Growing up in the Birmingham area, Hannah has always found inspiration from areas around town like Mountain Brook, English Village and the Botanical Gardens.
“Drawing inspiration around Birmingham is huge for me, because there are so many creative people here, and so many business owners with art or design-based spaces. You can walk into any store in these villages and meet someone who started their own thing.
There’s so much room in Birmingham for that, too, because our city isn’t too big. Everybody recognizes each other’s strengths.”

Hannah Winters x Ballard Designs

When Hannah was looking to upgrade her dining room, she knew just the person to help: Anna-Kathryn, a consultant with Ballard Designs. Hannah had visited Ballard’s huge showroom on 1st Avenue South and was familiar with their offerings, but Anna-Kathryn helped her find the perfect pick for her space: The Andrea rattan chairs were an easy way to mix textures, tones and materials.

In Hannah’s home, you can find a good mix of old and new items, which is exactly what you can find at Ballard, too: tons of styles from different time periods.
And even better, Anna-Kathryn and the other expert designers meet you where you are. They come into your home, hear your goals for the space and find a way to incorporate pieces they know will fit well.
“I think my dining room says that people live here and that there are children here. We want it to feel timeless, but also a place where it’s not too precious to be in. I want people to feel welcomed, but also inspired by the interiors.”
