I know it’s common to see people walking, biking or having a picnic at Railroad Park, but have you ever passed through and found a dance class, yoga or boxing and wondered if you could join?
If the answer is yes, then you probably recognize the fun as a Get Healthy on the Railroad class. If the answer is no, then let me introduce you.
Good news for either answer: These classes are happening now until October 31, and they’re FREE! Keep reading for all you need to know.
What is Get Healthy on the Railroad?

Nestled on 19 acres in the heart of Birmingham is one of my favorite local spots, Railroad Park. Its year-round community events are unrivaled (like the fun Magic City Pop-Up Plazas), and Get Healthy on the Railroad is no exception.
Get Healthy on the Railroad classes began as a different and more accessible way for us to get active.
Thanks to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama (BCBSAL), these classes are free! You don’t even need to sign up—just get there 15 minutes early to sign a participation waiver, and then you’re ready to move.
Get moving with fitness classes every weekday at 6PM

Now that you know what Get Healthy on the Railroad is all about, you can choose which class to attend! Here’s the full schedule:
- Monday: Boxing Aerobics: Using just body weight to tone muscles + build endurance. Plus, it doubles as a self-defense class.
- Tuesday: Hip-Hop Cardio: Upbeat, hip-hop-inspired choreography to boost cardiovascular health, strength + flexibility
- Wednesday: Zumba: Latin-inspired dance fitness class that blends basic dance moves with aerobic steps
- Thursday: Yoga: Strengthens + tones the body, promoting balance + flexibility while quieting the mind
- Friday: Line dancing: Low-impact, choreographed dancing to improve your coordination. Designed for all ages.
Wake up + move with Pilates on Saturdays at 8AM
If your weekdays are busy, there’s also a class to get you up and moving on the weekends! Pilates is offered every Saturday morning at 8AM for low impact, strength, flexibility and core exercises.
Classes for all ages: Tuesday, Friday + Saturdays at 8AM

No matter your age, it’s important to move your body. Railroad Park and BCBSAL know this, which is why Get Healthy on the Railroad is for all ages and experience levels.
On Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8AM, you can attend Senior Fit, a class focused on strength, flexibility, endurance and balance. The group exercise setting provides a wonderful opportunity to stay healthy and meet new people while having fun.
If you don’t know which one to choose, good news: All classes are offered now through the end of October, and there are plenty of options and time to try each of them. All classes take place at the pavilion, directly in front of The Red Cat Coffee House.
See you on the Railroad!
