Alabama State to kickoff 2026 football season at Legion Field

Alabama State University will kickoff the 2026 college football season at Legion Field taking on Southern University from Baton Rouge.

The marquee game between the two Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) rivals is scheduled for Saturday, August 29th.

“We are thrilled to build on our relationship with the SWAC and look forward to hosting Alabama State University and Southern University as we offer another great HBCU experience for fans.”

This year’s matchup will feature the college head coaching debut of Marshall Faulk at Southern. Faulk. A Super Bowl champ and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Faulk was on the staff of Colorado’s Deion Sanders in 2025.  

The match-up is slated to be nationally televised, according to both schools’ athletic directors. Obviously, this will not be the only game Bama State will play in Birmingham this season. On October 31, the Hornets will play Alabama A&M at The Magic City Classic.

Tickets for the Alabama State v. Southern game at Legion Field go on sale this week.
