Trussville is getting a new Planet Fitness.

Mayor Ben Short made the announcement this past Saturday on Facebook.

The popular fitness club is moving into the former Big Lots location at 5903 Trussville Crossings Pkwy.

This is not the first time Planet Fitness has set its sight on transforming a  former Big Lots location in the Birmingham-metro area. In December 2025, the city of Pelham approved permits to build a Plant Fitness at the former Big Lots at 3550 Pelham Parkway

According to the Trussville Tribune, the Trussville renovation will cost about $1.7 million.

Trussville is on a roll

The city of Trussville has built some economic momentum since the beginning of 2026.

Last month, the city announced they have attracted a new Raising Cane restaurant and hotel development. They are also eyeing a new grocery store and residential development.
