Calling all early birds! Whether you’re grabbing a couple of mimosas with your girls or fixin’ to get some biscuits and gravy, brunch is a perfect way to start the day.

Read on for some of our favorite brunch spots and why we love them.

1. Yo Mama’s

Yo Mama’s serves soul-soothing brunch favorites like chicken & waffles, shrimp & grits and crispy salmon croquettes. Brunch is served every second and last Saturday of each month from 9AM-1PM. With warm service and a laid-back vibe, it’s the kind of spot that feels like a hug (from your mama, of course).

Zaza’s brunch is full of Italian twists—think breakfast pasta and hash browns on pizza. Plus, according to Facebook users, they have some of the best French toast in Birmingham. Seasonal twists to this local restaurant’s brunch menu make it a perfect spot to try something new year-round.

Brunch at Zaza is served on Saturday + Sunday from 10AM-2PM.

3. The Essential

The Essential offers a relaxed brunch experience with a menu of simple, well-made dishes plus cocktails and espresso drinks. Brunch is served on Saturday + Sunday 9AM-2PM.

Between sweet options like the honey butter pancakes and savory specials like the essential hash, there’s something for every type of brunch lover. My favorite is the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, and a latte for good measure.

4. El Barrio

El Barrio blends the bold flavors of Mexico with warm Southern hospitality, and their brunch menu is a perfect reflection of that. Some of our favorites include the cuban madam and chicken chilaquiles.

Plus, we recommend washing it all down with an upper downer—a cold brew cocktail that will knock your socks off. Brunch at their downtown location is served Saturday 11:30AM-3PM, while their Homewood location serves brunch Sundays 11AM-2PM.

5. Fife Restaurant

Established in 1959, Fife Restaurant in downtown Birmingham is known for its hearty Southern breakfasts and welcoming atmosphere. You can expect classic diner-style breakfast—eggs and omelettes, hashbrowns, pancakes and perfectly-griddled sausage.

You can never go wrong with brunch at Big Bad Breakfast. Make sure to try the Irish coffee or a house-made Bloody Mary to add some flair to your meal.

Now, Big Bad Breakfast is bigger than ever—you can find new locations in Cahaba Heights, Pelham and Vestavia Hills.

Check out Hero for fluffy, flavorful brioche doughnuts, savory brunch bites and Domestique coffee. One of our menu favorites is the breakfast bun, served with egg, cheese, cracked sauce and pepper jam with your choice of meat on a brioche bun. And pro tip: don’t skip the hashbrowns!

8. SoHo Standard

SoHo Standard brings an easygoing charm and neighborhood warmth to Birmingham’s brunch scene. During weekend brunch, enjoy bottomless tapas with complimentary mimosas for a flat rate of $55.

Brunch is served every Saturday & Sunday from 10AM-2:30PM. With its relaxed vibe and friendly service, weekend brunch feels more like a gathering than a meal at this local spot.

Ever tried a brunch crunchwrap? Social Taco has one on the menu that’s perfect for fans of brunch-style food with a Latin twist. Brunch is served on Saturday 10AM-4PM and all day on Sundays.
