Meet Randy Hall with the Addiction Prevention Coalition

Randy’s journey into recovery is rooted in lived experience and sustained commitment: He has been in long-term recovery for seven years and now channels that experience into helping others as a peer support specialist.

Randy and fellow APC Peer Support Specialist Garland Clark coordinate and facilitate numerous peer support meetings each week, bring meetings into treatment centers and recovery residences, and emphasize cultivating healthy community and access to resources so people can begin to change and heal their lives.

Randy’s approach centers on inclusivity and multiple pathways to recovery—advocating that “one size fits all” models don’t work for everyone—and he helps create sober spaces and joyful community events like the End Addiction Walk.

Randy says it’s the one day all the recovery communities come together to celebrate, connect and show people that recovery is possible and full of authentic joy.

“The walk brings every corner of our recovery community into one joyful space — it’s where people find hope, resources and the reminder that they don’t have to do this alone.”

Randy Hall, Program Coordinator at Addiction Prevention Coalition

At first glance, it might seem like just another walk—but it’s so much more than that.

Alabama continues to face an addiction epidemic, and events like this help raise awareness, reduce stigma and connect people to life-saving resources.

More importantly, it’s about community. Whether you’re walking in honor of someone you’ve lost, celebrating recovery or supporting a loved one, you’ll be surrounded by people who understand and care.

What to expect at this year’s walk

The day begins with a pre-walk program recognizing top fundraisers and sponsors who help make the event possible.

Be sure to check out Resource Row, where local organizations provide information on prevention, treatment, recovery and wellness services. It’s a great place to connect—whether you’re looking for support or simply want to learn more.

You’ll also experience several powerful moments throughout the event:

  • Sober Circle: A joyful celebration honoring individuals in recovery—whether they have years, months, days or even hours of sobriety. Participants receive a “Hope” token.
  • In-Memory Activities: Including the Angel Wings sculpture, where attendees can leave messages to loved ones.
  • Memorial Flag Garden: Honoring Alabamians lost to overdose, with each flag representing a life remembered.

There will also be:

  • Music with DJ Floyde
  • Food trucks including A-Train, KJ’s Pastry and Ice Cream and Load Coffee
  • Mocktail station as part of the “Sober Sips” series
  • Yard games
  • And more!

A milestone year for APC

As APC celebrates 10 years of the End Addiction BHAM Walk, this year also represents the final time the organization will host the event in this format.

While the walk is coming to a close, APC’s work continues to grow through education, outreach and new initiatives designed to support individuals and families across Alabama.
