Homewood Piggly Wiggly project among 16 new high-dollar building permits
A major remodel to one this Birmingham suburb’s oldest grocery stores was approved last week. (Bama Buzz)

This past week, 16 new building permits were issued across the state for construction projects exceeding $1 million. These included projects in Auburn. Cullman, Gadsden Huntsville and the Birmingham metro.

The priciest of these permits was for a major redevelopment to one of the oldest grocery stores in the Birmingham area.

As reported by Bham Now, the much-anticipated redevelopment will bring about some major changes including the following:

  • Larger and updated store
  • Additional parking
  • Safer route for children using nearby tunnel
  • Better traffic flow
  • Green space

A $5.3 million permit was issued to Bradford Building Co. for the project, which is expected to be complete by the end of this year.
