7 new businesses + 1 closure in Birmingham this week

It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town.
From a new açaí and smoothie bowl shop in Five Points South to an ice cream parlor coming to Downtown Homewood, here are seven businesses that should be on your radar. Plus, one local business we’ll miss.

1. Desi Twist | Hoover

A new restaurant that blends the flavors of Indian cuisine with familiar American styles is now open in one of Hoover’s most popular shopping destinations. Desi Twist is a brand-new Indian fusion restaurant in The Villages at Brock’s Gap that blends familiar fast-casual concepts with rich flavors of Indian cuisine.
The new restaurant was founded by Ali Mathani, a Hoover native and local entrepreneur who previously created the Milky Way Ice Cream Bar next to Wilson’s Market in Southside.

2. Bandida Bowls | Five Points South

A new açaí bowl concept with a Latin influence is now open in Five Points South! Located in Five Points Lane, Bandida Bowls & Sips offers Latin-inspired yogurts, dirty sodas and specialty açaí bowls.
If you’re on the hunt for a fresh, refreshing snack to pair with your morning pick-me-up from Bandido Coffee, you don’t have to walk far to visit Bandida Bowls & Sips. Located in the Five Points Lane alley, Bandida Bowls & Sips is a new concept owned by Stephany Chavez, sister of Bandido Coffee owner Raul Chavez.

3. Remnant Coffee | Leeds

Great news for Leeds: A brand new coffee shop is finally open!
Remnant Coffee, which started as a traveling coffee trailer, has taken the next step in its business in becoming a brick-and-mortar shop, offering patrons a place to socialize, work or relax.

4. Sierra | Hoover

Sierra, a popular national outdoor apparel and equipment retailer, opened its first location in Alabama at Hoover’s Riverchase Crossings Shopping Center next to Trader Joe’s on Saturday, March 28.
Established in the 1980s in Sierra, Nevada, as Sierra Trading Company, the chain now has up to 145 stores nationwide. Sierra hopes to become the “go-to” spot for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, especially considering its proximity to Moss Rock Nature Preserve and Oak Mountain State Park.

5. Guthrie’s | Hoover

Guthrie’s Chicken, the Alabama-based chicken finger restaurant, has opened its fourth Birmingham-area location in Hoover.
Located at 1817 Montgomery Highway in front of the Riverchase Village Shopping Center, the new Guthrie’s is a stone throw away from the Riverchase Galleria and Trader Joe’s.
Back in 1978, Guthrie’s established one of the first restaurants in America to center its menu solely around chicken fingers. Today, the Hoover eatery marks the brand’s 34th location in Alabama and 70th nationwide.

6. New Shoes | Homewood

Construction is underway at a future ice cream shop located in the heart of downtown Homewood! New Shoes made its debut at the Taste of Homewood earlier this month, taking home 2nd place in the People’s Choice Awards for its tiny soft serve ice cream cone samples.
Although not much info has been released about the upcoming shop, New Shoes has dropped progress photos and brightly-colored sneaker-clad branding on its Instagram, @heynewshoes.

7. Einstein Bros Bagels | Trussville

You may have noticed a wave of Einstein Bros Bagels popping up around town. First, Vestavia Hills and Highway 280, and now Trussville!
Einstein Bros is known for its bagels, shmears, bagel sandwiches and coffees—the company was founded just over 30 years ago in Colorado, and now stands at more than 600 locations nationwide.
Presently, there is no word about when the Einstein Bagels Trussville location will open.

8. Beef O’ Brady’s | Brook Highland
According to a recent post on social media, Beef O’ Brady’s at 5279 U.S. Highway 280 in Brook Highland Plaza has closed:
“To our guests, It is with heavy hearts that we share that Brook Highland Beef’s will be closing its doors today Monday, March 30, 2026. Our lease is ending and we have been unable to reach acceptable terms with the landlord. We therefore made the difficult decision not to renew the lease. This was not an easy decision.
Please visit us at our Helena and Hoover locations which remain open.”
