Alabama’s first dedicated electric motorcycle and dirt bike dealer is now open in Birmingham! Located at 2224 4th Ave S. in Birmingham’s Automotive Historic District, BB Electric Moto is a new offshoot of Birmingham Broker that specializes in selling, servicing and building custom electric dirt bikes and motorcycles.

We met with owner and founder Craig Westbrook to learn more about BB Electric Moto and its grand opening event on Saturday, April 11.

Earlier this year, Birmingham Broker owner Craig Westbrook opened BB Electric Moto after being introduced to the world of electric dirt bikes and motorcycles by his son.

“Last year, my son started falling in love with these things on YouTube, so we traded in his dirt bike for an electric one. Before I knew it, more and more kids in the neighborhood started getting electric bikes, so we decided to make a go of it at Birmingham Broker.”

Described by Westbrook as the “baby brother” of Birmingham Broker, BB Electric Moto is the first dedicated electric motorcycle dealership in the state of Alabama. Not to be confused with e-bikes (hybrid bikes powered by both a battery and pedals), electric motorcycles are powered solely by an electric battery rather than a traditional internal combustion engine (ICE).

According to Westbrook, the riding experience of an electric motorcycle differs slightly from its gas-powered counterpart, although experienced riders will adapt quickly.

“Electric motorcycles are extremely torquey—you go from zero to rowdy with the twist of a throttle. But just like an ICE bike, you just have to respect and understand how to ride them before you get on.”

At BB Electric Moto, Westbrook carries 50+ motorcycles and dirt bikes—ranging from $1,300 to $6,500—from the top brands in the market, including:

“We’re really thrilled to start carrying electric bikes from Bonnell, an emerging company that’s got several new products in the pipeline that people are excited about.

Another big name in the rowdy emoto world is the Stark VARG—those things are 80 horsepower. Bonnell is introducing a new bike with 87 horsepower that some are calling the ‘Stark Killer.’

We’ll have Bonnell’s new E5 product, the 775 MX, here to showcase at our grand opening on April 11.”

In addition to new electric motorcycles and dirt bikes, BB Electric Moto offers custom builds, performance upgrades and repair services—ranging from battery diagnostics to full motor rebuilds.

“Riders always customize their bikes right off the bat, upgrading the pegs, the grips, the bar, the mount and stem block. Then they’ll want more speed, so they upgrade the motor and buy a new battery for more juice—before you know if, you’ve dumped 10 grand into your dream build. Or, we have companies that manufacture these custom builds for a much more affordable rate.”
