If you’ve felt the roar of the Miles College Purple Marching Machine, you know the energy, talent and discipline behind every note, beat and flawless move. Fresh off their 2025-2026 championship win (their second in a row), the Fairfield-based band is now the star of a new YouTube documentary, “Wall of Sound,” giving fans across Birmingham and beyond an exclusive look at what it took to claim back-to-back national titles.
How Miles College claimed its second national championship
If you’re late to the party, last December, the Purple Marching Machine was crowned the ESPN 2025 Red Lobster HBCU Division II Band of the Year, defeating Fayetteville State’s Marching Bronco Express to secure their second consecutive national championship.
Led by Director of Bands Willie J. Snipes, Jr., the college’s first music major graduate, the marching band has become one of the most recognizable HBCU bands in the country, known for their prevision, energy and a sound that stops the stadium.
