7 new businesses + 1 closure in Birmingham this week

It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town. 

From a new café joining the Pepper Place family to a new chicken joint on 280 with a cult following, here are seven businesses that should be on your radar. Plus, one long-time business saying farewell.

Now Open

1. The Mustard Club | Pepper Place

At long last, the sandwich shop planned to take the place of BLUEROOT in Pepper Place is now open for business. The Mustard Club features “a lunch-focused menu with thoughtful ingredients and a relaxed neighborhood feel,” according to owners Chef Chris Newsome and Anna Newsome.

While The Mustard Club serves a select few of menu items, the offerings are diverse and vibrant—think sandwiches, small plates, salads, coffee, wine and beer.

2. Sea Bar | Lane Parke

A new seafood-driven concept that draws inspiration from coastal Italy and Japan through world-class ingredients officially opened its doors in Mountain Brook last week. 

Described as “a love letter to the coast,” Little Betty Sea Bar is the newest concept from Revival Restaurant Group, the Atlanta-based collective behind the adjacent Little Betty Steak Bar. (P.S. Bham Now got a first taste at the menu—check out more here)

3. Brick & Tin | Cahaba Heights

brick & tin, the popular restaurant known for its farm-to-table approach, opened on March 13 in Cahaba Heights. 

Located in the Market Square Shopping Center, the new spacious eatery which contains a bar, patio and bakery.

Founded in 2010 by former Highlands Bar and Grill chef de cuisine Mauricio Papapietro, brick & tin recently expanded its culinary footprint to Huntsville in late 2025. The new spot in the fast growing Vestavia Cahaba Heights neighborhood is their fourth location. 

4. Raising Cane’s | Highway 280

After months of waiting, chicken-finger fans finally got their Raising Cane’s fix at the restaurant’s grand opening Tuesday, March 10. This makes Alabama’s third Cane’s location and first in the Birmingham area.

Some folks were in line for 14 to 16 hours, vying for “the one-of-a-kind gift basket” and a big welcome from the Cane’s crew. By the time the store opened at 10AM, there were hundreds of people waiting in line to order Cane’s.

5. The Greedy House | North Titusville

Auburn defensive lineman and former AH Parker High standout Jourdin Crawford has opened a new community resource center in the former Modern House Coffee House in North Titusville.

Located near Memorial Park, the new center is called The Greedy House and was created by Jourdin Crawford using funding from his NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) earnings. Within The Greedy House, Crawford and his team have developed several community resource programs, including essentials, community pantry, education and more.

6. Flipsies Furniture | Hoover

The Riverchase Promenade has a new stop for furniture, Flipsies, marking the second location of the locally-owned store. 

Located on Montgomery Highway, the new Flipsies store is occupying the former spot of Joann, a craft store that closed nationwide in 2025.

7. Sakeroom | Five Points South

A new Japanese-inspired cocktail and sushi lounge is opening soon in Five Points South, offering premium sake, handcrafted cocktails and crave-worthy sushi in a “chic and moody atmosphere designed to feel both luxurious and rebellious.”

Bham Now took a special look inside Sakéroom ahead of its grand opening on March 20. Located on a popular Five Points South corner across from Mellow Mushroom, Sakéroom is an intimate, Japanese-inspired cocktail and sushi lounge founded by Paige Depperschmidt, a local entrepreneur with a knack for crafting elevated experiences.

8. Parkside on 5th | Avondale

Parkside on Fifth, the popular bar across from Avondale Park, is closing March 27.

Tim Burt, who owns Parkside and the Avondale Marble Works Building, told Bham Now he plans to semi-retire to Greensboro, Alabama. After Parkside is closed, to keep busy in retirement, Burt will be moving down to Greensboro in the Black Belt to open up a new home decor and event space. After Parkside on Fifth is closed on March 27th, the restaurant/bar will open briefly during the first week of April to sell the remaining furniture, fixtures and equipment at the location.
