US-280 all-lane closure at Pump House Road to take place for 3 days

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) announced another total closure of US-280 as Mountain Brook’s Pump House Road bridge is demolished.

Here is what commuters need to know:

  • Friday, March 20 at 11PM, crews will close all US-280 lanes, both westbound and eastbound
  • Eastbound lanes (toward The Summit) will remain closed until Monday, March 22
  • Westbound lanes (toward downtown Birmingham) will reopen each morning at 5AM before closing again at 11PM
  • Monday, March 22, all lanes will reopen no later than 6AM

ALDOT recommends the following detours, as pictured in the image above: 

  • Eastbound: Lakeshore Parkway to I-65, to I-459, to US-280
  • Westbound: The same route in reverse order

This is the second complete closure of US-280 for the Pump House Road construction project, and ALDOT said to expect one more weekend of road closures after March 22.
