After months of waiting, chicken-finger fans finally got their Raising Cane’s fix at the restaurant’s grand opening Tuesday, March 10. This makes Alabama’s third Cane’s location and first in the Birmingham area.

The lightning storm was not enough to keep customers away from the new location at 5301 US-280. Some folks were in line for 14 to 16 hours, vying for “the one-of-a-kind gift basket” and a big welcome from the Cane’s crew. By the time the store opened at 10AM, there were hundreds of people waiting in line to order Cane’s.

For the first 100 combos purchased inside the restaurant, customers received a Cane’s branded trucker hat and a free combo card to use on a future visit.

“I’ve been here for about 14 hours. I’m excited about us finally having a Cane’s up here for once and finally having something other than Zaxby’s.”

Those who were in line between 8 and 9AM were entered into a drawing to be one of 20 people to get free Cane’s for a year, which includes 3 box meals per month for 12 months.

The festivities will continue all night as Cane’s serves more customers and a live country band starts performing at 6PM.

Giving back to the community

As part of the festivities, Raising Cane’s donated $1,500 each to two local charities:

  • Genesis One, a foster-based animal rescue in the Chelsea/Birmingham area
  • King’s Home, serves youth, women, mothers and children seeking help from abuse, neglect, abandonment, homelessness and other extreme and impoverished conditions

“I just look forward to serving the community. It’s a blessing that we have these wonderful customers ready, and we are also going to be very active in community involvement.”

Scott Dyer, restaurant leader

At the grand opening, Genesis One had a few puppies available for adoption.

Dyer, a Gadsden native, said the restaurant will continue to contribute to the community through service and donations.
