For the first time in more than 15 years, the Birmingham Parking Authority (BPA) will increase the parking rates at its facilities effective July 1.

The change is intended to “better align BPA rates with the current Birmingham parking market and with those of comparable cities,” the authority said in a press release Thursday.

“While we are committed to keeping parking affordable, and rates as low as possible, we also recognize the need to update both our rates and our facilities in order to better serve the public. The additional revenue will go back into the parking system to pay for upgrades and repairs to our decks and lots, invest in new technology, and improve customer service.”

BPA CEO André Davis

Updated rates

The new rates affect all BPA properties and vary based on location:

  • All seven parking decks: $3 first hour, $1.50 each additional hour, $14 daily maximum
  • Avondale Village lot: $3 first hour, $1 each additional hour, $10 daily maximum
  • Morris Avenue lots: $2 first hour, $1 each additional hour, $8 daily maximum

Monthly parking will also increase:

  • All seven parking decks: +$10/month increase on average, $80-$105 based on location
  • Executive parking at decks 3, 5 + 6: $135/month
  • Avondale Village lot: $25/month
  • Morris Avenue lots: $55/month

The current rates are:

  • Avondale Village lot: $2 weekday first hour, $5 weekday maximum, $5 nights (5PM-midnight) and weekends
    • No monthly option
  • Morris Avenue lot A1: No hourly option
    • $51/month

    • $70 monthly
  • Deck 4 (2128 4th Ave N): No charge first hour, $3 two hours, $1 each additional hour, $9 daily maximum
    • $95/month
  • Decks 3 (401 20th St N), 5 (2012 5th Ave N) + 6 (2010 2nd Ave N): No charge first hour, $3 two hours, $1 each additional hour, $9 daily maximum
    • $100/month ($110/month executive)
  • Deck 7 (1702 5th Ave N): No charge first hour, $3 two hours, $1 each additional hour, $9 daily maximum
    • $85/month
  • Deck 8 (2021 3rd Ave S): $2 first hour, $1 each additional hour, $9 daily maximum

Part of the goal of these updates, according to BPA, is to provide greater consistency across all BPA-managed locations.

Since adopting its strategic plan in December 2024, BPA has:

  • Completed critical structural repairs to its facilities
  • Undertaken the first comprehensive deep cleaning of its decks in its history
  • Introduced a refreshed brand identity + new logo
  • Invested in advanced technology to enhance efficiency + service delivery
