You may not realize it, but there are always exciting events happening at Birmingham-area public libraries.

This weekend is certainly no exception — on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, there are three family-friendly events to look forward to at three community libraries.

Birmingham Public Library receives Alabama Humanities Alliance grant for World War I presentation

  • What: During World War I, canning and food preservation became patriotic acts as communities across Alabama mobilized to support the war effort. Alabama Humanities Alliance Road Scholar Dr. Martin T. Olliff will deliver a presentation exploring Alabama’s role in food preservation efforts during WWI.

Homewood Public Library hosts community puzzle swap

  • What: The Homewood Public Library invites the community to trade, share and discover new challenges at its upcoming Puzzle Swap. Bring gently used puzzles — complete with all pieces and in good condition — to exchange for something new to enjoy with friends and family. The event is a fun, budget-friendly way to refresh your puzzle collection while connecting with fellow enthusiasts.

Meet old and new nonprofits at Hoover Public Library Kindness Summit

  • What: The Kindness Summit is a nonprofit volunteer fair bringing together more than 25 local nonprofit organizations for an afternoon of conversation, connection and community engagement.

    • Hoover Beautification

    • League of Women Voters
