Edgar’s Bakery, a chain with eleven locations throughout Alabama, has big plans to construct a new manufacturing facility in Pelham.

The bakery purchased about five acres of land for $2.485 million on Thursday, Feb. 12, according to Shelby County Probate Court records. The land was sold by Birmingham Realty Company, a subsidiary of Barber Companies.

The purchased land is located in Oak Mountain Commerce Place, approximately near the intersection of Pelham Parkway and Cahaba Valley Road.

Economic impact for Pelham

Edgar’s Bakery requested and received a tax abatement from the City of Pelham in connection to this project on Dec. 1, 2025.

In July 2024, the bakery had also requested an abatement for a separate, smaller project, which was intended to construct a major addition the existing facility located on Southgate drive. This new project is replacing those previous plans.

The project has a total capital investment of approximately $13.2 million, which is broken down as follows, according to Pelham City Council documents:

  • $11.5 million in property costs
  • $1.5 million in new manufacturing equipment
  • $100 thousand worth of equipment will be transferred from existing facility
  • $100 thousand in non-manufacturing equipment

Additionally, 40 new employees will be hired as a result of the project.
