Did you know it’s officially called “Washington’s Birthday” to commemorate George Washington, the first U.S. president? Although Washington’s birthday was February 22, 1732, a bill was passed in 1968 to celebrate the third Monday in February.
City, county, federal + state offices
All city, county, federal and state offices will be closed on Monday, February 16 to observe Presidents’ Day.
Garbage collection in many cities will not run. Check your local trash collection schedule for any holiday changes.
Mail centers
- USPS will not deliver mail
- FedEx will offer modified services
- UPS will operate fully
Banks + courts
Banks are generally closed on Presidents’ Day, but ATMs will still be available.
Jefferson County courthouses will be closed.
Schools
Public and most private schools are closed for the holiday.
Shopping + sales
Grocery stores will be open and operating on normal business hours.
