Culinary Dropout, Carrigan’s, Salud and more earn 95+ food service scores in January 2026

Several Jefferson County restaurants including Magic City Grille in Bessemer, Carrigan’s new location in downtown Birmingham, Ocean Seafood + Kitchen in Midfield— and 36 additional local restaurants—received 95 and above on their food service scores this past January.

Since 2018, Bham Now has reported the monthly Jefferson County Department of Health restaurant food service scores. Each month, the Health Department inspects an average of 100-125 local establishments that handle and serve food. 

They include:

  • Restaurants
  • Schools
  • Nursing homes
  • Daycare centers
  • Hospitals
  • Grocery stores
  • Concession stands
