A longtime 5 Points South favorite is entering a new chapter. Ocean Restaurant has been a go-to in Birmingham’s 5 Points South for more than two decades—and now it’s entering a new era. After 24 years, founder and longtime owner Chef George Reis shared on Facebook today that he’s passed ownership to Chloe Kidd, bringing fresh energy and vision to the beloved seafood spot.
A 24-year legacy in 5 Points South

Reis opened Ocean more than two decades ago, turning a dream that began when he first stepped into the restaurant industry at just 15 years old.
Over the years, the restaurant became known for its refined seafood, intimate atmosphere and a hot spot for countless celebrations, from anniversaries and first dates to college graduation parties.
In his heartfelt Facebook post, Reis reflected on how meaningful the journey has been, noting how quickly the years passed and how much the restaurant and its guests shaped his life.
While saying goodbye as owner wasn’t easy, Reis did share comfort in knowing Ocean is in good hands moving forward.
Chloe Kidd—Ocean Restaurant’s new owner
Ocean is now being led by Chloe Kidd, who has officially taken over ownership. According to Reis:
“The new owner, Chloe Kidd, has already taken over and is settling in, full of vision and passion. She sees great things ahead and has exciting plans for Ocean’s future.
I wish her every success and happiness on this next chapter.”
