YMCA of Greater Birmingham to close Alabaster branch this spring
Reading time: 1 minute

Alabaster’s YMCA will close at the end of May.
The YMCA of Greater Birmingham announced the closure today, stating the current facility “faces major maintenance and repair needs that exceed our financial capacity.”
Located at 117 Plaza Circle, the Alabaster YMCA branch was established nearly 40 years ago. In the early 2010s, the facility experienced significant growth led by the addition of a six-lane indoor pool.

Seven YMCA branches remain

This is the second YMCA of Greater Birmingham branch to close in the past three years with the shuttering of the Downtown Birmingham branch on Dec. 31, 2022.
Seven branches remain in the Birmingham Metro area including the newly renovated and expanded Northeast Birmingham Branch in Roebuck.
The other YMCA of Greater Birmingham branches are located in:
- Pelham
- Hoover
- Greystone
- Shades Valley
- Trussville
- Mountain Brook
