Any parent with kids who play youth sports will tell you that time spent at ball fields and parks can sometimes be uncomfortable, inconvenient and down right dull.
Not so in Irondale.
Thanks to new facilities with state-of-the-art features, cheering on your little sluggers has become a win-win.
Check out all the reasons why parents are flocking to the fields of Irondale again this spring—plus how you can sign up your child for the upcoming season and be a part of these winning teams.
Ruffner Park Sports Complex is an $8M+ upgrade

Though this exciting new facility debuted this time last year with 11 teams and more than 100 young participants, the complex is back in full swing and ready to knock it out of the park this season.
We’ve previously reported on the park’s renovation process, and now that it’s open, it boasts:
- 3 state-of-the-art turf fields
- 2 playgrounds
- picnic pavilions
- a 2-story concession stand
- a walking track
Find the facility at 301 Ruffner Road in Irondale.
“Last season showed us what’s possible when a community invests in its youth.
Our second spring sports season at Ruffner Park is about taking that success even further—creating opportunities for our kids to grow, compete and thrive both on and off the field.”
City of Irondale Mayor James D. Stewart, Jr.
Features families love about Irondale youth sports

You can make the most of kids’ field time—and no need to roast in the sun while you do it. New amenities include features that make observers’ experience more enjoyable, whether they:
- want to sit in the shade thanks to covered bleachers
- need to take a lap via the surrounding walking track
- are ready to blow off some steam on one of two nearby playgrounds
- stay grateful for quicker clean up—thanks to the advanced playing surfaces (aka less time spent scrubbing out red dirt stains from uniforms!)
- are hungry for more food options provided by the 2-story concession facility and picnic facilities
- or even appreciate new, clean restrooms
