The opening date for the first Raising Caneโ€™s restaurant in Birmingham is set.

The chicken joint with a cult-like following is gearing up for a March 10 opening, according to the Shelby County Reporter.

Since Summer 2025, local residents along Highway 280 have been anxiously watching the construction of Raising Caneโ€™s.

The new eatery is built on the footprint of the former Lloydโ€™s Restaurant.

About Raising Caneโ€™s

Founded in 1996 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, this is the chainโ€™s third location in Alabama. The other two are in Tuscaloosa and Mobile.

If you havenโ€™t been to a Raising Caneโ€™s, the menu is like many other fried chicken restaurantsโ€™:

  • Chicken fingers
  • Crinkle-cut fries
  • Slaw
  • Texas toast
  • Caneโ€™s chicken sandwich
  • Caneโ€™s sauceย

Presently there are more than 750 locations nationwide.

The Birmingham site is at  5301 U.S. 280 near Walmart and Hamburger Heaven. Also opening soon right next to the upcoming Raising Caneโ€™s is a new location of 7 Brew Coffee, which is currently under construction.
