6 new openings + 2 closures in the Birmingham area

It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town. 

From an award-winning design studio’s new home in English Village to a new event venue in downtown Birmingham, here are six businesses that should be on your radar. Plus, two businesses were saying farewell to in 2026.

Now Open

1. Still Johnson Interiors | English Village

At the turn of the new year, Still Johnson Interiors completed its move from Morris Avenue to its new home in the English Village on the same strip as Continental Bakery, Chez Lulu and Le Weekend.

The design studio has been featured in publications like Garden & Gun, Frederic, Domino and Architectural Digest Mexico. 

In November 2025, Garden & Gun named glass dinnerware by Still Johnson and Pearl River Glass Studio a winner of the 16th annual “Made in the South Awards.”

2. Urban Cookhouse | Stadium Trace Village

Urban Cookhouse—the local restaurant chain founded in 2010 by David and Andrea Snyder—opened a brand-new location in Hoover’s Stadium Trace Village today.

The brand is marking the debut of its fifth Birmingham-area restaurant with a week-long lineup of special activities and giveaways—learn more here.

3. The Grove | Birmingham

A new event venue, The Grove, opened for business late last year, and it is ready to host corporate meetings, weddings, festive celebrations and more. 

Located just outside of Downtown Birmingham, The Grove offers exclusive space for events, outdoor areas and ample parking for guests.

4. GreaterWorx | West End

A new co-working hub, GreaterWorx, officially opened in West End on Friday, Jan. 16 with a ceremonial ribbon cutting hosted by Birmingham nonprofit Network Navigator.

GreaterWorx was founded by Christopher and Robin Burrell, a husband-wife duo with a “hared vision for creating a space where professionals, creatives, and entrepreneurs can work, grow and build together.” 

5. Le Esthétique | Hoover

Located in Hoover’s Knox Square, Le Esthetique opened officially in early December.

The business was originally T&T Brows Academy, which was located at 533 Stadium Trace Parkway in Hoover. The transition to Le Esthetique allows for expanded services beyond brows, professional training and more appointment availability.

Services include pedicures, manicures, waxing, facials and lash extensions.

6. Nail Lab & Bar | Hoover

Nail Lab + Bar is a new salon operating under new management out of the former location of Nail Star next to HomeGoods on Montgomery Highway.

The spa’s services include manicures and pedicures (even for kids!) and waxing.

7. Satellite by Domestique | Avondale

A local coffee shop at one of Birmingham’s most popular music venues has announced it will be ending operations, according to a recent social media post.

Satellite, Domestique Coffee’s cafe at Saturn, will permanently close after its last day in operation on Saturday, Jan. 31. Though it’s bittersweet to see this longtime Avondale coffee shop go, the announcement hinted at what’s next: a tasting room at Domestique’s Lakeview HQ.

8. Francesca’s | All locations

After more than 25 years, women’s fashion chain Francesca’s is closing all locations, including its boutique at The Summit, Riverchase Galleria and Outlets at Grand River.
