StarDome Comedy Club in Hoover takes new ownership
Reading time: 2 minutes

After more than four decades of laughter, legacy and legendary stand-up, StarDome Comedy Club’s longtime owner is stepping into retirement. A Hoover landmark, the Stardome has officially been sold to Helium Comedy, a nationally recognized comedy club brand.
Bruce Ayers and his family, who have owned and operated the club for nearly 50 years, are handing the mic to a new team—while keeping the Stardome name and spirit alive.
StarDome Comedy Club since 1983
Since opening its doors in 1983, StarDome Comedy Club has been a cornerstone of Birmingham’s entertainment scene. Bruce Ayers, along with his wife CheChe and their daughters, worked side by side for decades to build what has become one of the most beloved comedy clubs in the country.
From household-name comedians to rising stars, Stardome has hosted countless performers who brought laughs that felt uniquely Birmingham—jokes about Piggly Wiggly, Southern life and the everyday moments locals know all too well.
Now, Helium Comedy is stepping in to carry that legacy forward. The company has announced it will continue operating the venue under the Stardome name, preserving the club’s identity while bringing Helium’s national experience to the Birmingham stage.
Bruce Ayers shares his gratitude
Bruce Ayers shared his gratitude in a Facebook post for the years he spent building Stardome and the community that supported it. He also expressed deep appreciation for the employees, performers and loyal fans who helped make the theater what it is today.
With Helium Comedy running the show, audiences can look forward to many more years of laughter, big-name acts and unforgettable nights at the StarDome—just as Birmingham has loved it for more than four decades.
