There has been a lot of news about grocery stores in the Birmingham area over the past couple of months.

In early December, the Birmingham City Council approved an $850,000 incentive package to help bring a new Carver Jones Market to the former Save A Lot at Heritage Park Townes Center in the Woodland Park neighborhood.

In Homewood, the Piggly Wiggly store was closed on January 3rd to make way for the remodeling of the location.

Last week, Southeastern Grocers confirmed they are closing Birmingham’s last two Winn-Dixie locations in March.

What’s next for grocery stores in 2026 here in the Magic City? Stay tuned and keep up with Bham Now for the latest news.
