Grocery store closed for remodeling in Birmingham Five Points West

The Meat Depot by Food Giant in Birmingham’s Five Points West neighborhood closed last week for remodeling.
Located at 2220 Bessemer Road near the Birmingham Crossplex, the store made the sudden announcement via a January 7th Facebook post.
Below is the sign posted on the entrance of the storefront.

The temporary closure of the store comes nearly three years after the long dormant former Winn-Dixie location reopened as a Food Giant store.
Presently, there is no word about when the store will reopen.
Grocery stores closings and changes

There has been a lot of news about grocery stores in the Birmingham area over the past couple of months.
In early December, the Birmingham City Council approved an $850,000 incentive package to help bring a new Carver Jones Market to the former Save A Lot at Heritage Park Townes Center in the Woodland Park neighborhood.
In Homewood,the Piggly Wiggly store was closed on January 3rd to make way for the remodeling of the location.
Last week, Southeastern Grocers confirmed they are closing Birmingham’s last two Winn-Dixie locations in March.
