The popular Homewood Piggly Wiggly on Montgomery Highway is temporarily closing on December 31st at 6:00PM.

The much-anticipated redevelopment of the beloved “Pig” will bring about some major changes including the following:

  • Larger and updated store
  • Additional parking
  • Safer route for children using nearby tunnel
  • Better traffic flow
  • Green space

“We are all so excited to see our brand new Pig in 2026, on one of the most prominent intersections in Homewood. A huge thank you to the Virciglio family for continuing to invest in our community, and to the employees of Piggly Wiggly for all they do for Homewood. See you at the Pig in 2026!”

Jennifer Andress, Mayor of Homewood

To help make room for the move, the store, which is located at 3000 Montgomery Highway, across from Shades Cahaba Elementary School, has slashed prices on many items in the store by 20%.

According to Mayor Andress, the store is expected to re-open by the end of 2026.
