The temporary closure of the Homewood Piggly Wiggly to remodel their current location on Montgomery Highway has been extended to Saturday.

The beloved store is slated to open an additional two days after the New Year’s Day holiday — January 2 & 3, from 8:00AM to 2PM.

“Today has been so overwhelming with loyal customers, we now plan to open  Friday and Saturday Jan 2 & 3 from 8AM-2PM with deeper discounts. We are grateful for everyone’s kind words and memories of this store building. With the New Piggly Wiggly store remodel, we are committed to it being even better, more energy efficient and better parking and walkability.”

Andrew Virciglio, fourth generation Piggly Wiggly owner and operator

As reported by Bham Now, the much-anticipated redevelopment will bring about some major changes including the following:

  • Larger and updated store
  • Additional parking
  • Safer route for children using nearby tunnel
  • Better traffic flow
  • Green space

“We are all so excited to see our brand new Pig in 2026, on one of the most prominent intersections in Homewood. A huge thank you to the Virciglio family for continuing to invest in our community, and to the employees of Piggly Wiggly for all they do for Homewood. See you at the Pig in 2026!”

Jennifer Andress, Mayor of Homewood

According to Virciglio, the new and improved Piggly Wiggly is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2026.
