Located in Birmingham’s Central Business District at 417 20th St N, The Plaza is an 18-story, 240,000-square-foot office tower that serves as the headquarters to Viva Health, the Alabama-based Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) that offers both employer group plans and Medicare Advantage plans locally. The tower also houses offices for the People’s Bank of Alabama and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

According to the Birmingham Business Journal, The Plaza was recently purchased by a company registered to R.D. Sharma of Icon Properties on Tuesday, December 23rd. The Atlanta-based real estate investor purchased the property for $10.55 million.

The sale of The Plaza is the first major transfer of a downtown Birmingham office tower since the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) purchased the Daniel Building in 2023 for $16M.
