Birmingham Fitness Center North is officially back open—and better than ever.
City leaders and community members gathered earlier this month to celebrate a ribbon cutting for the newly renovated facility, located at 421 Rev. Abraham Woods Jr. Blvd, directly across from Parker High School.
Upgrading Birmingham’s health
The upgrades were made possible through a collaborative effort between District 5 Councilor Darrell O’Quinn and former District 8 Councilor Carol Clarke, who each contributed $50,000 in ARPA funding toward new, state-of-the-art exercise equipment.
The councilors also partnered with the City of Birmingham to address long-needed facility repairs, including updates to the building’s roofing and flooring.
This project has been a long time coming, Ronald Hicks, Deputy Director of Birmingham Parks & Recreation told CBS 42. Hicks noted that the center is now outfitted with modern equipment and is open to all, with the goal of supporting both physical health and community connection.
City officials say the renovations will help ensure Birmingham Fitness Center North remains a welcoming space for residents to stay active and engaged for years to come.
