Behind Gallery Annette is Duncan and Anna Chancellor, a local couple with a lifelong love of art—so much so that their wedding reception was held in an art museum!

For them, art is about more than just pieces on a wall—it’s about the stories behind the work and the way it transforms a space.

“Our friends and neighbors, Lori and Jim Smith, owned Art Alley for 25 years. When they decided it was time to enjoy the next phase of life, Anna and I saw an opportunity to continue what they had built and keep a place for original art in Birmingham.”

With Gallery Annette, Duncan and Anna wanted to create a gallery that is welcoming, approachable and inspiring, whether you’re starting your first art collection or simply looking for a place to slow down and enjoy some creativity.

“We want Gallery Annette to further add to the culture of the city we love and all it has to offer. Our hope is that this space—and the art within it—invites you to slow down, linger a little longer and find beauty in the everyday.”

If you don’t frequent art galleries, visiting one can feel intimidating. You may wonder if you need to use a hushed art museum voice or feel guilty for not buying anything. That’s far from the experience at Gallery Annette.

This space carries forward the spirit of Art Alley but with a fresh and welcoming energy. You’ll be met with a vibrant, approachable gallery where exploring art is meant to be enjoyable, not stressful.

Currently, the gallery features work from 21 artists, with pieces ranging from scenic landscapes to abstracts, funky graffiti, florals and pop art. With a variety of styles and mediums, each visit is a new experience.

“This is a place where you can begin your art collection, add to a growing passion, or simply experience the creative spark that original artwork brings.”
