One of Hoover’s several trails received an extension, and it’s now ready for the public to enjoy and explore.

The existing Riverchase Greenway Trail is a half-mile loop located next to Riverchase Elementary School. It’s paved and winds through open fields, a pine thicket and across two bridges over floodplain ponds along the Cahaba river.

The extension, which is part of the Freshwater Land Trust’s Red Rock Trail System, sits on around 30 acres of land, curves along the Cahaba River and runs approximately two-thirds of a mile one way.

To find the extension, go to the backside of the existing loop and look for light-blue signs that read “Red Rock Trail System,” which will point you in the right direction.

The city says there’s a “surprise view” at the end, so put on your walking shoes and get ready to explore!
