Rev your engines, Homewood—there’s a brand-new Hot Wheels car library rolling into the neighborhood. Sitting at 507 Morris Boulevard, this “take one, leave one” spot is designed to spark fun for kids and nostalgic grown-ups, too.

Read on to see how it works and what inspired this fun neighborhood addition.

Behind Homewood’s Hot Wheels Car Library

In November, the Homewood City Council received a unique request for a Hot Wheels Car Library.

The measure passed unanimously! According to the city’s news release, the Elliot family, who live in Homewood’s Edgewood neighborhood, came up with the Hot Wheels library idea after seeing something similar to it while visiting grandparents.

Thanks to that fortuitous encounter, the family’s five-year-old and grandparents proceeded to build the box, and both boys plan to serve as “Hot Wheel-brarians”.

Homewood City Councilor Nick Sims praised the new addition to the neighborhood.

“In the spirit of Free Little Libraries, the Elliotts have created the matchbox car equivalent in front of their home. The Hot Wheels Hub spreads kindness and adds one more destination of interest and fun for kids to visit when out on a stroll in the heart of Edgewood. I love this new addition to our neighborhood!”
