Red Sea Ethiopian, Mediterranean and Cajun Restaurant, located in the Red Mountain Plaza Shopping Center, has permanently closed, leaving only a “coming soon” banner for a new eatery.

The community-loved spot was the final place to grab Ethiopian cuisine, as the other Birmingham Ethiopian restaurant, Ghion Cultural Hall located in The Pizitz, closed back in 2019.

Red Sea closed its doors with little fanfare, leaving the community sad at its sudden departure.

What’s next?

Signage on the former location of Red Sea, located at 22 Green Springs Highway, says that Ali Basha is coming soon. Ali Basha is a Mediterranean food truck operating primarily out of Fultondale, making this a big move to a brick-and-mortar location.

The food truck serves dishes such as:

  • Schawarma
  • Gyros
  • Basha bowls
  • Pita wraps
  • Smash burgers
  • Fries

As more information becomes available, Bham Now will provide updates about the opening date of Ali Basha.
