Today, Auburn University announced that Greg Gagliano has been hired as the new Director of Birmingham Operations for Auburn University’s Harbert College of Business. With more than 30 years of leadership experience in the Birmingham area, Mr. Gagliano is uniquely positioned to lead the Harbert College of Business’ professional education, degree programs and graduate certificates here in The Magic City.

In 2024, Auburn University unveiled a brand-new education hub in the heart of city—Auburn in Birmingham. Located at 2013-15 4th Avenue North in the renovated Hood-McPherson Building, Auburn in Birmingham boasts 44,000 square feet of instructional, collaborative and administrative space within the six-story building, which houses space for Auburn University’s College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC), Harbert College of Business and the provost’s office.

After a year-long search, Auburn University has identified former Regions Bank executive Greg Gagliano as the new Director of Birmingham Operations for the Harbert College of Business.

With more than 30 years of leadership experience in the Birmingham area, Mr. Gagliano is uniquely positioned to lead the Harbert College of Business’s efforts to expand professional education, graduate certificates and degree programs here in The Magic City.

Mr. Gagliano is no stranger to Auburn University, having graduated from the school with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Operations Management) in 1993. He has since served on both the Alumni Council and Advisory Council, where he’s helped set curriculum, mentor and be part of the development of students in the College.

What Auburn has planned for its new hub in Birmingham

With Greg Gagliano as its new Director of Birmingham Operations, the Harbert College of Business is gearing up to expand its engagement with both businesses and their employees in the Greater Birmingham Area.

“Birmingham is a strong economic engine with multiple industries, and those industries are full of companies with employees who need continuing education.”

Starting in 2026, the Harbert College of Business in Birmingham will partner with local companies to offer both custom and open enrollment business professional education, with the potential to offer graduate certificates and degree programs in the near future.

Greg plans to reach out to Birmingham businesses and corporate partners to identify the main areas of need in the business community, thereby helping to pinpoint programmatic opportunities. He also encourages companies and business leaders to reach out with their needs and thoughts.
