New healthy grocery store opening near Five Points West in Birmingham

A new micro-grocer is bringing “fresh, real and affordable food” to Birmingham! Nourish Grocer—a new concept from the team behind Bama Health Foods—is set to open in the Five Points West on December 6. Did we mention the first 25 guests will receive FREE health wellness boxes?

Longtime Birmingham health food store opening new micro-grocery
For over 50 years, Bama Health Foods—formerly known as Health Foods West—has been a staple in Birmingham’s Five Points West community. Led by health coach and owner Jacquie Fazekas-Varne, Bama Health Foods offers curated natural supplements, ranging from vitamins and superfoods to herbs and hair care products.
This year, Jacquie Fazekas-Varner and her team decided to open a new micro-grocery store to make it easier for families on Birmingham’s Westsde to access “affordable, clean and culturally relevant food.”
“Bama Health Foods has been a staple in the Five Points West community for over 50 years. Since we operate in a food desert, we decided to expand into Nourish Grocer—a place where people can shop for accessible, locally-grown, clean and organic food options.”

Located next to Bama Health Foods in the Central Park neighborhood of Birmingham’s Five Points West community, Nourish Grocer will be stocked with a variety of healthy, locally-sourced foods, including:
- Fresh organic produce
- Seasonal goods from local farms
- Pasture-raised eggs, dairy and local honey
- Affordable staples like rice, lentils and oats
- Clean-label snacks and low-glycemic packaged foods
- Health household cleaning products
- Grab-and-go options along with recipe cards tailored to local tastes

Nourish Grocer will be celebrating its grand opening from 10AM to 5PM on Saturday, December 6. The first 25 guests will receive free health wellness boxes, followed by giveaways for Bama Health Foods’ December 2025 Workshops & Events:
