Reading time: 2 minutes

If you’re in the mood for something sweet—and a little out of the ordinary—there’s a new Homewood spot you’ll definitely want to check out. Say hello to Dolce Pavlovas, a bakery and café bringing handcrafted Venezuelan flavors to the neighborhood.
Read on for details on Birmingham’s newest obsession.
Dolce Pavlovas is a sweet new chapter in Homewood
We caught up with owner Reina Perez, who runs the shop alongside her husband. Originally from Venezuela, the couple previously owned a restaurant there before moving to Birmingham to start a new culinary adventure. Now, they’re serving fresh treats and café favorites in Homewood.
How does Reina feel about the opening?
“I am very excited. If you’re craving something sweet at night, Dolce Pavlovas is the perfect place to visit.”
Reina Perez, owner, Dolce Pavlovas
The star of the menu: pavlovas
Haven’t tried a pavlova before? It’s a meringue-based dessert with a crisp exterior and soft, marshmallow-like center, topped with whip cream and fresh fruit.
Popular in Australia and New Zealand, it was named after Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova.
Dolce Pavlovas is one of the only places in Birmingham offering the dessert—and you can get it in various flavors:
- Classic with whipped cream + fruit
- Nutella with whipped cream, Nutella + fruit
- Caramel with whipped cream, caramel + fruit
- Black Forest with whipped cream, cherries + chocolate
Order them in 4”, 8”, 12” 16” or bite-size minis.
More to enjoy
Beyond the pavlovas, you’ll find fresh salads, sandwiches and drinks like lattes, cappuccinos and flavored matcha.
There are more desserts, too: custard, 3 Milk Cake in a jar and mini or regular-sized tarts in chocolate, strawberry or passion fruit.
