Since Bayonet opened earlier this year, it has earned the loyalty of seafood lovers, cocktail connoisseurs and—according to CBS Mornings—solo diners.

On a recent segment, CBS News correspondent and Alabama native Jan Crawford headed to Bayonet to get the scoop on why solo diners keep coming back.

On a national scale, TouchBistro reports one in five Americans regularly dine out alone. For Chef Rob McDaniel, that’s a big opportunity.

“When someone is dining alone, that’s huge opportunity to really “wow” them and give them an experience they weren’t expecting.

If you come in and sit by yourself and we give you an amazing experience, what we’ve done is planted a seed for the next time you’re here—whether it’s just you or a larger party.”

In fact, OpenTable says solo diners spend 48% more on average.

So, what exactly makes Bayonet the place to dine solo?

For one, the restaurant regularly hosts live fish butchery nights when a big catch comes in. Diners who sit at the raw bar will get to watch Sous Chef Coleman Self break down whole fish for service—most recently, an 83-pound yellowfin tuna.

Aside from the occasional dinner-and-a-show, solo diners at Bayonet’s raw bar say they enjoy talking to staff, chatting with fellow diners and simply the chance to get off their phone.

“That’s one of my biggest pleasures—if I can walk around the bar and dining room and there’s no phones. Unless they’re taking pictures!”
