3 holiday traditions in Birmingham + how to get in the spirit
Reading time: 3 minutes

Pretend it wasn’t 75 degrees in Birmingham all this week, and instead, close your eyes and imagine: You’re standing outside the Alabama Theatre, you’re bundled up in crisp, 40-degree weather and you’re minutes away from watching “Elf” alongside 2,000 other Birminghamians.
We’re not far from this magic, and Christmas movies at the Alabama Theatre are just one of the many holiday traditions in Birmingham to commemorate the season.
Keep reading for three classic traditions across the city—and a fun new drink to get you in the holly jolly spirit.
First things first: Get into the holiday spirit with this fun new soda
I love any excuse to enjoy a fun drink, and I think the brand-new Coca-Cola Holiday Creamy Vanilla is going to be my fun drink of choice for the foreseeable future. It’s the perfect blend of a classic vanilla flavor and a little hint of caramel. Think of a cream soda or Coke float—smooth and tasty until the very last drop.
It’s already a hit in our office, so we had to bring it along on our holiday-traditions-in-Birmingham-tour.
Glow Wild at the Birmingham Zoo

The Birmingham Zoo lights up every holiday season with Glow Wild: An Animal Lantern Celebration.
In case you don’t know: This display shows hundreds of larger-than-life installations and more than a million lights. You can also ride the Red Diamond Express Train, and enjoy live entertainment.
Don’t miss out! Glow Wild is happening from November 22 through January 4.
Holiday film series at the Alabama Theatre

The Alabama Theatre is already a magical place to me, but throw in a giant Christmas tree, a full lineup of classic movies and a sing-along—I’m in heaven.
As soon as you walk through the doors from December 12-22, a floor-to-ceiling Christmas tree greets you, and bar specials like the Merry Cherry Christmas keep you company while you watch classics like White Christmas, Elf and even Die Hard.
The Alabama Theatre Holiday Film Series is one of my favorite seasonal traditions, even long before I lived in Birmingham. We popped in last week with our Coca-Cola Holiday Creamy Vanilla to get the full experience—I highly recommend.
Check out the full schedule, but don’t wait to get your tickets! They sell out fast.
Holidays on the Mountain at Vulcan Park

You might know the tradition as Vulcan’s Magical Nights, but this year, Vulcan Park & Museum is bringing a brand-new take on their seasonal celebration. Think: More lights, more entertainment and way more fun.
On Saturday, December 6, you can snap a photo with Santa and enjoy sweet treats as you stroll through the park. Then, as the sun sets, Vulcan will come alive with a light display that brings out his best features.
Which of these holiday traditions in Birmingham will we see you at? Don’t forget your Coca-Cola Holiday Creamy Vanilla when you’re out and about this season!
