At the end of August, Moss Rock Tacos & Tequila at The Preserve served its last batch of margaritas before closing permanently.

But that wasn’t the end for owners Benard and Brianna Tamburello, who have recently re-opened the space with a new name and concept: Vecchia Gelato & Café.

A taste of Italy in Hoover

A sister restaurant to Vecchia Pizzeria next door, Vecchia Gelato & Café was inspired by the Tamburello’s vacation to Italy last year.

Inside, the café—with its plentiful natural light and elegant design—feels cozy but elevated.

Vecchia Gelato & Cafe’s offerings include a full Italian espresso bar and large selection of pastries and gelato. (We tried the croughnut—a cross between a croissant and doughnut that pairs perfectly with a classic latte.)

Plus, a menu of Sicilian street foods including focaccia flat breads, sandwiches and small bites like arancini (fried risotto balls) and whipped ricotta.

The drink menu is equally appetizing and Italian-inspired, featuring a selection of Aperol spritz, limoncello, blood orange spritz and more.
