Since its founding in Birmingham in 1999, ¡HICA! has been dedicated to empowering Latino and immigrant families across Alabama through community development, advocacy and education. Over the past two decades, its annual Tamale Sale has become more than just a fundraiser—it’s a way to celebrate culture, family and tradition right here in the Magic City.

What began as a small community event has grown into one of Alabama’s most anticipated seasonal fundraisers. Thousands of families look forward to it each year, eager to get their hands on the famous tamales that sell out fast.

How to get in on the 2025 Tamale Sale

In many Latino cultures, the ritual of preparing and sharing tamales at Christmas is a cherished tradition that’s been passed down for generations. Since 2003, ¡HICA! has worked to bring that same spirit of togetherness, storytelling and love to Birmingham through their annual sale.
