New Montevallo meat-and-three is serving up Southern comfort
Reading time: 2 minutes

If anyone is hankering for some ol’ fashioned, homestyle Southern cooking, folks in Montevallo are in luck.
Just last month, Sophie’s Kitchen opened for business, serving a menu full of comfort food.
The restaurant, which officially opened Friday, Sept. 19, is owned and operated by Sophia Cottingham and her husband Michael.
Sophie’s Kitchen is open Thursday-Sunday and each day, Sophie posts a different menu full of Southern favorites such as:
- Fried/baked chicken
- Beef tips & rice
- Fried catfish
- Oxtails
- Pork chops
- Collard greens
- Candied yams
- Black eyed peas
- Mac & cheese
- Bread pudding
- Peach cobbler
Sophie first got her start in food in Shelby County in the early ‘90s, when she operated a food truck called Wangs & Thangs. In honor of that, each Saturday, they serve wings and other cookout classics.
Some of those menu items include:
- Fried/grilled catfish
- Chicken tenders
- Burgers
- Polish sausage
- Fries
- Fried green tomatoes
- and of course, wings with several sauce options
So far, the restaurant has been a hit with the Montevallo community, Sophie said, and we can certainly see why.
Scrap your dinner plans: Stop by and give her Southern cooking “made from scratch and cooked with love” a try.
