Birmingham has a presence in Hallmark’s latest cooking show, “Baked With Love: Holiday,” and we think it looks like Alabama’s duo has a solid chance to reach the finish line.

At the end, there could be a $50,000 prize waiting for the daughter-and-mother team.

Baked With Love: Holiday first aired Monday, Oct. 27, which is when Sally Wicker McKay, a Birmingham-metro food stylist, and her mother, Amy Wicker, were introduced to Hallmark audiences.

What is Baked With Love: Holiday?

On Baked With Love: Holiday, 10 pairs of home bakers compete for a $50,000 cash prize and a chance to have their creations featured in one of Hallmark’s iconic Countdown to Christmas movies.

The judges are:

  • Tamera Mowry-Housley (host) — Emmy award-winning host, actress, producer and entrepreneur
  • Anna Haugh — renowned Irish chef and TV personality
  • Vaugn Vreeland — New York Times cooking producer

Each episode has two cooking challenges. So far, Sally and Amy have won two of the four challenges: one for their peach pie and another for a 3-D white Christmas tree cake. On last week’s episode, there was a three-way tie for best cookie wreath that included Sally and Amy’s creation.

Sally was encouraged to apply for the show by a friend, and she told local blogger Chanda Temple that when she had to choose a family member for her team, her mother was “a natural choice.”

“I always loved being in the kitchen with her. And from an early age, I loved to bake. She’d always let me make cupcakes or do things that kids can do. She was just very encouraging and very hands on.

“We have a good relationship, and I’m glad she encouraged my interest in baking and cooking.”

Sally is the founder of “Sally’s Confections,” a blog where she posts her recipes and experiences as a food stylist, but that wasn’t the career she got her start in.

“My first career was in banking, but I left the workforce in 2009 to stay home with my children while they were little. I got into cookie baking and decorating around when my oldest son turned 4. And the why behind that is because I was at home-A LOT.

“I made decorated sugar cookies for his birthday party, and they were a huge hit. Immediately, I was hooked on baking and decorating cookies. A lot has changed since I iced my first set of cookies as a hobby.”
