9 new businesses (+ 1 closure!) in The Magic City this week

It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town. 

From a new steak and seafood restaurant at The Hardwick to a burger joint making its Lakeview debut, here are nine businesses that should be on your radar. Plus, one area business that will soon be closing its doors.

Now Open

1. Pink Lantern | Downtown Birmingham

A new coffee shop, cocktail bar and event space is now open in downtown Birmingham! Owned by Clay Freeman and Danny Le, Pink Lantern features unique Vietnamese coffee in the day and signature craft cocktails at night.

At 4PM every day, the lights inside Pink Lantern will transition from white to pink, visually signaling the transformation from coffee shop to cocktail bar. Meanwhile, tables and chairs will be make way for chic dance floor, which opens up in front of an elevated stage perfect for themed events, drag brunch shows and more.

2. Lapeer Steak & Seafood | Downtown Birmingham

Located in The Hardwick along Rotary Trail, Lapeer Steak & Seafood is now open! Founded in Alpharetta in 2019, Lapeer Steak & Seafood is a chef-inspired steak and seafood concept bridging the best of a classic steakhouse and a breezy coastal restaurant.

The kitchen is led by Co-Executive Chefs Andy Long and Blake Hartley, an accomplished chef who began his career at Hot & Hot and Bottega.

Offering both lunch and dinner, Lapeer’s menu features raw bar selections, steaks, whole seafood, seafood pastas, sharable sides and much more.

3. Trail Magic Sandwich Shop | All Good Beverage Co.

Located inside brew pub All Good Beverage Co., Trail Magic is a sandwich shop with an Italian-inspired menu featuring seven signature craft sandwiches, plus the option to build your own from the “Butcher’s Block.”

Beyond sandwiches, the menu includes snacks, an antipasto box, three kinds of pasta salad, homemade chips and pizza by-the-slice from their neighbors at Miracle Pizza Co.

4. Vito’s Burger Joint | Lakeview

A new burger joint recently opened its doors in Birmingham’s Lakeview district! Vito’s Burger Joint is now serving up cheesesteaks, chicken sandwiches, franks and—of course—a stellar hamburger.

Owners Vito and Tricia Rosato operated the Sneaky Pete’s on 6th Avenue South for over three decades and recently decided to exit the franchise to create their own restaurant.

Open for breakfast and lunch during the week, Vito’s Burger Joint offers a little bit of everything. In fact, if a customer wants something that’s not on the menu, all they have to do is ask—if he has the ingredients, Vito will make it.

5. Vecchia Gelato & Café | Hoover

Earlier this year, Moss Rock Tacos & Tequila announced its closure at The Preserve. But all hope wasn’t lost—owners Benard and Brianna Tamburello announced they would be rebranding as Vecchia Gelato & Café, sister restaurant to Vecchia Pizzeria next door.

Now, Vecchia Gelato & Café, a charming Italian-inspired café is open for business serving everything from gelato to pastries to espresso drinks and much more.

6. Me Gusta! | Five Points South

Me Gusta!, a new café in Five Points South, has officially opened its doors after several months of anticipation.

The shop, located across from Hilton Birmingham Downtown at UAB, serves coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its menu features croissants, sandwiches and specialty bowls loaded with protein and veggies.

Husband-and-wife duo Jesus and Karla Serrano own Me Gusta! in addition to University Tacos, which has locations next door on University Boulevard and on 5th Avenue North. 

7. Five Points Fitness | Five Points South

Southside has a new fitness center specializing in everything from personal training and group fitness to martial arts. 

Five Points Fitness, located at in the rear of the former Zydeco building, opened Saturday, November 1. Lead Trainer Josiah Shibley is the general manager and focuses on helping busy professionals achieve results through strategic strength training, tailored bodybuilding programs and evidence-based nutritional guidance.

8. Mason Music | Vestavia Hills

Mason Music, one of Alabama’s premier destinations for music lessons, is opening its sixth Birmingham-area studio in Vestavia Hills in January 2026.

The new Vestavia studio will welcome its first students on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026. The Montgomery Highway space is shared with the Birmingham School of Photography, creating a unique hub where the arts meet. 

9. Big Bad Breakfast | Pelham

Get ready for the new Big Bad Breakfast, Pelham! After more than a year, it’s finally time for them to open their doors tomorrow, November 11.

Pelham’s Big Bad Breakfast is located in the Canopy at Oak Mountain next to Taco Mac and Cahaba Cycles and near the Pelham Civic Center Complex, the home of the Birmingham Bulls.

The new BBB in Pelham is the 5th in the Greater Birmingham area and 9th statewide.

10. Pet Supplies Plus | Trussville

According to recent social media posts, Pet Supplies Plus in Trussville will be closing at the end of the month. Stop by for any of your pet food and care needs before November 30!
