WBHM to launch “The Hub”—your new station for arts, culture + community
Reading time: 3 minutes

Birmingham, WBHM is launching your new local escape on November 14: The Hub 106.1 FM and HD2.
Unlike traditional news stations, The Hub isn’t about the headlines. Instead, it’s all about the arts, culture and people that make the Heart of Alabama special.
Think local shows, creative voices from your neighbors and public radio programming with a fresh twist.
Read on to hear all about WBHM’s exciting new radio sister station.
A radio station for the people of Birmingham

So, how did WBHM make this happen? Two smart moves. First, in 2016, WBHM picked up the 106.1 FM signal, which used to just mirror the main 90.3 FM station. Then in 2023, a transmitter upgrade and HD radio tech opened the door for unique programming on 106.1 FM and HD2.
For people who don’t know radio talk—that means more local content, more variety and more ways for businesses to connect with the community.
“We are extremely excited to introduce 106.1 FM The Hub to the public. Our goal is to present more local programming in a market oversaturated with syndication. The Hub is a simulcast from WBHM 90.3 HD2 whose concentration will be on arts, culture and community. We plan to relieve listeners who may be suffering from “news fatigue.”
Jon Malone – Programming and Operations, 106.1 FM “The Hub”
