Me Gusta!, a new café in Five Points South, has officially opened its doors after long-awaited anticipation.

The shop, located at 801 20th St. South across from Hilton Birmingham Downtown at UAB and next to University Tacos, serves as a coffee shop in addition to serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Husband-and-wife duo Jesus and Karla Serrano own Me Gusta! in addition to University Tacos, which has locations next door on University Boulevard and on 5th Avenue North.

Their corner location is perfect for hunkering down and working or grabbing a quick meal with a friend. They are open until 9PM on Monday through Saturday, so there is plenty of time to swing by for a pick-me-up.

In addition to their coffee, they have several breakfast options:

  • Sandwiches
  • Croissants
  • Toast
  • and more!

Otherwise, their specialty is bowls, and the options are endless. You can choose from their menu options — such as the namesake “Me Gusta! Bowl” with cucumber-tomato salad, roasted corn, roasted vegetables, avocado, cilantro, jalapenos, pumpkin seeds, plantain chips and cilantro-lime dressing — or choose from their many options to make your own bowl.

Protein options include:

  • Skirt steak
  • Grilled chicken
  • Spicy grilled chicken
  • Grilled shrimp
  • Grilled umami tofu

The inside is bright and vibrant, thanks in part to Alphagraphics Hoover, which installed the interior branding and signage, complete with a painting of UAB’s mascot, Blaze the Dragon.
